Swing drill with no highbar...

Unread postby powerplant42 » Thu Dec 20, 2007 6:17 pm

Does anybody know how I can train my swing withOUT a highbar or highbar type thing? (Don't have access... :( )ANYTHING HELPS! I keep not swinging, and if I WOULD swing, then I could probably win regionals this season, if not, in outdoor... But I'm breaking my trail leg and dropping my drive knee, and overall just plain out not rotating at all, so I'm struggling to clear even 10 feet right now... HELP ME PLEASE!

Anything that hangs. If you cant get into your school and hang on the squat racks, maybe soccer goals, or get a membership at a fitness center. Better yet, build your own! I've lived in 2 houses and built a rings and high bar contraption both places for less than 100 dollars.

I would build my own, but my parents don't want me to until at least next year... and I really want to practice over the break coming up... What I was thinking, is that if I could sort of lie on a bed or something like that, let my hips hang over, pick up right knee, etc., then I could simulate a swing up like that. What do you think?

That will help build core strength, which certainly won't hurt, but your problems are probably related to your run/plant/takeoff.

Mmm, I thought so too at first, but I was told that my take-off is actually really good, and yes, sometimes my plant is horrible. Most of the time though, it's reasonably good. But I feel an enormous energy right after take-off that I feel somehow I just can't catch up with. Anyone else ever have this? Maybe I should move my grip height up? Definitely appreciate the input so far, by the way. I've sort of hit a vault-wall that I want to break through, you know?

Never move your grip hieght UP if there is already something wrong with your vault. That should be a general rule, that if your technique is not where you want it to be, you should never move your run farther back, raise your grip, or go up poles. If your take off is good, but your cant swing to to inversion, maybe its a problem with your hands? They need to be directly over your head applying upward pressure during your swing. If you hit a strong take off, its almost effortless to get to inversion with your hands in the correct place. Of course in a real vault, you still put effort into it ;).

My hands have been sort of sketchy lately I guess... But I really fixed the whole of my planting/hands issues today, when I realized that I drop my pole too early. I'm curious to see how I do next Wednesday at my meet, now knowing that I need to drop my pole EONS later than I was a day ago. But I'm still asking about a drill anyone might know of...?
