NO! haha this is a guy that i vault with so i figured i would keep my mouth shut for a while cause he knows the way i vault and some of the things we talk about. The grip deffinetly doesn't need to be more wide, that just creates problems as he progresses, it might ge thim on bigger poles now but it will create a block later on.

Jason, you hit the sprint drills right on the nose! haha Sprint drills are good, but not for the take off of the vault, ladyvols diagram of the run and the strides leading into the take is very good! :D I have a chart from him it is a great tool to use for acuiring the right run for the each person.

Im sure more will be said, but the season has just started so things will get going and more vids will be posted. Good stuff for sure as you know i tell you!

P.S. HAHA I'm one of the 6'3 guys, haha sorry.

Maybe you're getting a little out of control? Not that you shouldn't be going as fast as you can, but perhaps you're just getting there a few steps too quickly, so you're not powering into the air, you're just trying to jump from a run that's been sustained for too long. Does that make some sense? I tried to explain it, didn't do a great job... more video please? :D

You want your fastest controllable speed. Sure right now you could run pretty fast with a pretty long stride right now, but could you hit a tall take off at a good take off angle? Adjust your run to 4 or 5 lefts (or rights for ppl like me) and run with some pop in your step, worrying more about being tall than "pushing" your run further. Now when i say be tall, all i mean is standing or running up straight with no leaning forward or backward. Your knees should come high with each step, and you should be popping up as well as forward with each step. Looking at it that way, a 4'8" person can run tall :P.

It it not even important how far back your step is, or how wide your stride is for the most part. Ive seen guys hit 31' on their mid, with such a quick and fast step that they jump 16+. Its way more important to worry about accelerating the whole way on the runway. Your step cadence should shorten during your entire run, because you are constantly accelerating, and those last 2 or 3 steps should be short and powerful. But of course, do as i say, not as i do ;).

First get your coach off the front buns. If I recall that is the biggest pit made you can't miss it if you jump under 17'. If you get him off the buns he won't be able to tap you. Don't tap! It certianly wouldn't hurt to spend some (a lot) of time drilling. 20/20's, ostrich, straight leg Runs. Your plant is late and you are taking off under. Pole carry - your left hand is on top of the pole insted of the pole resting between the finger and thumb. Just what I see. Remember you have to take the advice on this site for what it is worth. It may be alot it may be none.

HaHa thats what i thought too but ive managed to miss it a few times and coach morell had to catch me once to keep me from busting face... you ought to see our school mats, they are about the size of the mid peace on those college mats, i think ive missed them more times than i have accualy landed on them...but i like to think ive made a kind of art out of screwing up vaults :D

It happens, we all just work on jumping as safe and as high as possible, and you have come along way. Just more stuff to work on, there is always more stuff to work on.

That is also a terrible angle to try and see anything as a coach.

One thing that you MAY be doing (it's tough to tell in the video for a whole bunch of reasons,) is starting your rock back too early. Just a guess. If you could get a better video (that was probably just from a camera phone right?) then it would be easier to help you out.

Yeah i know the video is not the best quality, its a little harddrive camera, but if the lighting is right its really clear. I have a meet tomorrow and the weather is supposed to be really sunny and absolutly no clouds so i should be able to get a good video.
