World record holder Sergey Bubka will be coming to Malta in October as IAAF representative at the European Athletics Conference.

One of the most recogniseable sporting figures for over two decades, Bubka is an athletics legend having broken the pole vault record thirty five times and still retains the world best mark at 6.14 metres. He also won Olympic gold in Seoul in 1988 and won the World Championships on six straight occasions from Helsinki 1983 to Athens in 1997.

Upon retiring, he embarked on a new career as sports administrator whereby Bubka has been an IAAF Council Member since 2001, as Executive Board Member of the Olympic Committee of the Ukraine, and is also member of the IOC Executive Committee. He is a Member of Parliament of Ukraine and has been President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine since 2005. He was elected President of the IOC Athletes' Commission in 2002.

This August he was elected IAAF Vice President during the IAAF Congress held in Osaka, Japan poling 167 votes out of the eligble 192. The other Vice Presidents elected with him were Sebastian Coe (GBR), Robert Hersh (USA) and Dahlan Al-Hamad (QAT).

The EAA Calendar Conference will be held between the 11th and 14th October.
