21:20 : Mesnil has a clearance on his second attempt at 5.86m. Lukyanenko, Pavlov and Lobinger will try again. Hooker will risk taking his remaining attempt at 5.91m.

Yay lots of PV video again :)

Lukyanenko alllllmost makes it!! Great attempt. he is out but he finishes with 2 PRs and certainly looks like a rising star in the event.

Pavlov tries to abort the attempt but has too much speed and runs onto the mat.

He is out but finishes with a slight PR.

21:21 : No clearance for Lukyanenko, so he's done now.
21:25 : Pavlov is out as well. Lobinger will be the last to vault at 5.86m. No clearance for Lobinger. We're down to six vaulters at 5.91m.

Averbukh now on the runway. He has his traditional knee brace on. I think he must he hurting or something if he passed 5.86. 5.81 was a SB for him.

Ecker now up. He had one miss at 5.86 and then passed, so he will have two tries at 5.91.

21:28 : The first heat, as with all races here, is announced with the sonorous sounds of what we think is a conch horn.

I was at a meet in Germany where every event was introduced with music from Pirates of the Caribbean.

Ecker misses! His only has one attempt remaining.

Do or die time for Hooker!! Only one attempt. If he misses he is wayy down there. Like 9th or so. If he makes he takes the lead!

He had two misses at 5.86 so this is his only attempt.

21:30 : Hooker's up for his last attempt at 5.91m in the pole vault.
21:31 : Hooker cleared his first two heights, 5.51 and 5.76, on his first attempt, but he can't do it here. We are down to five.

Jeff Coover saw it n the background of the decathlon 1500 and it looks like he bailed.

That is a huge surprise!! The Aussie nation will be crushed. They were counting on two medals from Hooker and Burgess.

Brad Walker now up. He needs a clearance here to make sure he maintains a comfortable lead.

The announcers are speculating about some kind of controversy with Hooker.

The announcers are piissed that they are showing the slow heat of the men;s decathlon 1500 instead of the pole vault.

I am guessing they are not actually at the stadium...

Walker and Mesnil miss.
