Bubka in exile from Ukraine?

Bubka, 43, has proven strengths. Now a Ukrainian exile in the French village of Ez on the border of the IAAF's headquarters in Monaco, he regularly carries out unpaid work for them.



I know he was heavily involved in Ukrainian politics. Did he end up on the wrong side of things there?

I think the writer means it as in he's a voluntary expatriate not a forced exile. Exile can mean both but in the US it's usually the term for the latter.

Either way, I did not know he had left the Ukrainian scene.

I don't think he has. He owns restaurants and construction businesses in the Ukraine, he just doesn't live there. I read in an interview that he lives in Monaco for his son's tennis career since his coach is there. Probably the tax situation is tons better also.
