Hartwig opened at 18-2, Miles opened at 17-10. Hartwig then passed at 18-6 but then made 18-8 on a first. Miles jumped at every height and made 18-8 on a first. Mack opened at 18-2 and made 18-6 on a third. He then made 18-8 on a first. Toby and Hysong, who both looked great on first attempts at 18-8 but missed were forced to pass their next two attempts at 18-8 b/c three guys had made it on a first, and in a WC year, there's no point in fighting over 4th. Everyone jumped at 18-10 but Hartwig. None made it. Hartwig then had 3 misses at 19-0.

i think that someone was stephen harris of Tenn. cause he had on a Tennessee uniform and the Deca vault was after the mens open vault.

18'8" isn't a bad height considering the highest in the world this year is only 19'2". Everyone better get used to sub-19 winning a lot of big meets. Big bars will be very rare with the short pegs.

Achtungpv is right. The NCAA champion jumped under 18 feet for the first time since the early 80's possibly because of the pegs, but in high school the pegs stayed the same and Tommy Skipper jumped 18'3". I think the only reason that anyone has not jumped 5.90+ this year is because of the damn pegs and crossbars, but who knows the WC are still to come but it is unlikely that someone will pop off a big one. Who ever is responsible for this stupid change is dumb as dirt.

Obviously a high bar is still possible since many 6m+ jumps have been clean, but asking an athlete to clear 4-5 bars in a progression clean before getting to 6m is asking an awful lot. Slight brushes are much more common the higher you jump since the room for error is so much smaller. I wonder how many all-time 6.00+ performances had a slight brush on any clearance in the progression. Maybe 20%? 40%?

ya we may not see a record broken for a long time. Although most of Bubka's 20 foot jumps are pretty clean from the looks of it.

I think one of my coaches said that Bubka was one of the people who made the peg rule. Probably to keep his record safe longer.

When markov was threatening 20 a couple years ago(or a few, can't remember) bubka was in the stands and got interviewed. the report said he was hoping he'd do it. I have a hard time believing some would go so far as to, on the world scene, make a change to keep their record longer, especially someone who could have put the record much higher. Thats not the impression I get anyway. But hey, thats my opinion.

That is the popular conspiracy theory.

Gee -peg length would explain why long jumps are down - High Jumps! - How many sub 13 hurdle clockings have you seen lately!! Say what you may - it is to early to make such dire forcasts - by the way - it sure looked like Hartwig hit the bar and it stayed up -
Plant like crap sometimes ok most times
