IAAF Ratification of Junior and Youth Records Indoor PV

Unread postby PVstudent » Wed Feb 14, 2007 6:26 pm

Would any of the PV event historians and statisticians out there help me to answer the following questions about PV World Records:

1. When did the IAAF start to officially ratify world records in pole vault for Youths, Boys and Girls age groups in Indoor Competitions?

2. What are the official world indoor records for Youths, Boys and Girls in Indoor PV Competitions?

3. Where are these official records published and can they be accessed electronically?

4. Who is the current IAAF official world record holders and what is the height for male and female vaulters at the following ages indoors and outdoors?

Name Boys Height (m) Name Girls Height (m)
Age Indoors Outdoors Age Indoors Outdoors
12 ? ? 12 ? ?
13 13
14 14
15 15
16 16
17 17
18 18
19 ? ? 19 ? ?

This information would be of great interest not only to me but also PVP readers. Similar data for "masters" level competitions would be very valuable, though I doubt that that it would be readily available.

If you can help I would be very grateful to see tables of the data published on this site. Young vaulters from around the planet and their coaches would find the data invaluable.

IAAF Ratification World Records, Juniors,Youths, M/F PV

Unread postby PVstudent » Thu Feb 15, 2007 12:23 am

Thank you Rainbow Girl for the links to the excellent resources on your web site.

Whilst I have no doubt these data are accurate, some being updated on a daily basis, they are not all records that have been ratified, or can be ratifiable by the IAAF. By this I mean that there are some world records reported on these lists that are accepted as having been ratified under the IAAF rules, the International Governing Body for Track and Field Athletics, and some clearly are not.

Finding data for youths, boys and girls (ages 12 -16 particularly), that have been ratified as Official PV Out and Indoor World Records by the IAAF is the information I am seeking.

Thank you for the links to the brilliant data resources on PVP. They are very helpful. The search continues!

I don't think the IAAF ratifies age records, I think they just ratify world, junior (U20), and maybe youth (U18) records.

This is also what I was believed to be the case. The IAAF Official Web site statistics section gives World Junior and Youths Records. The records given are for PV IAAF Official Junior and Youth records obtained Outdoors. I could not find IAAF official records for Junior Men / Women for Indoor Competitions which prompted my original questions.

The Junior World Record (Indoors) recently claimed for the winner of the Russian Junior National Championship (Indoors) is it regarded as Official (ie ratifiable by the IAAF) or unofficial (ie not ratifiable by the IAAF)? If it is not ratifiable by the IAAF then clearly it will be the unofficial World Ju nior Men's PV Record (Indoor Competitions). I would like to be clear about what is or is not a Ratified World PV Record at Junior and lower ages groups. Records not ratified by the IAAF I believe to be Unofficial World Records. Am I wrong in this understanding? If so please correct me.

In Australia I am confident that there are no indoor competitions than could be conducted that would meet IAAF regulations for the conduct of Indoor competitions for Men and Women in PV at this time. There is no indoor facility in Australia currently used for full, or even, shorter run indoor pole vault training or competition.

For Australian junior and younger aged pole vaulters there is no opportunity to compete indoors unless they travel to the USA or Europe during the Australia Outdoor Track and Field Competition season. Other nations are in similar circustances.

This may also be a reason the IAAF does not appear (so far as I have been able to find out) to have published Youth and Junior World PV Indoor Records. Not all of the world's nations have the opportunity to compete indoors at the same time of the calendar year. Therefore some caution is warranted in the interpretation of the use of the words "World Record" with respect to Indoor Competitions for Pole Vault especially at Youth and lower age levels for boys and girls.
