Super 77/Adhesive Spray

Unread postby jcoover » Thu Jan 25, 2007 12:26 pm

I was curious about people that use adhesive spray and their strategies with use. I got some Super 77 and also got some STA spray from my trainers which is obviously less powerful. With the Super 77 i got some goo desolvent, which seems to work decently. For people out there that use STA, Super 77, Stickum or other adhesives, how often do you put it on usually? and how do you ensure maximum stickiness? Im just now making the switch from chalk, and hoping to get the max efficiency out of it. Thanks.

I have always liked Tuff Skin. It seems to stick longer and doesn't sweat off like Firm Grip does. I used it in high school (100 years ago) and it still seems to be made the same way today as it was back then. It builds calluses like crazy too. I remember in high school I had paws more than palms. Frankly, I think any kind of adhesive has more of a mental benefit than a physical benefit. This coming from a guy (me) who looked like Fred Biletnikoff when I was jumping 30 plus years ago. Now I'm finding that there's a real fine line between enough and too much. I've worked with the 3M super 77 alot in different things that I've done and it's not the best for skin. Worse yet is the solvents used to remove it are even worse on your skin and does enter your body through the pores in the skin. You don't want any of that stuff running through your blood system. Hope this gives you a little insight on a very sticky subject. Later.......Mike

Try some Gamma Grip gauze tennis racquet grip tape instead of athletic tape. It offers the perfect amount of roughness or friction and stickiness -- there is no slipping. You can buy it at most of the big chain sporting goods stores and many tennis specialty stores. It comes in blue, green and black, costs about $3 per roll, and you need one roll per pole. It's kinda old school as far as tennis is concerned but great for pole vaulting.
May the Force be with you!

Be careful with 77 Adhesive

Unread postby Bruce Caldwell » Fri Jan 26, 2007 8:23 am

PLease read the label of the super 77 Adhesive. If you breath much of it you may cause harm to yourself. It use to be used to glue pit foam togeather. We use to tell employees you may not have children if you breath too much of that stuff
Be Very very careful

i think the tough skin works great. they key to it is how you tape your pole actually. go to an electrical supply store and pick up some double sticky sided cloth electrical tape. or if you cant find that, reverse tape your normal white crap. then apply tough skin, twist it in your hand for a few seconds.. and soon your stuck.. be ready to spend lots of time washing your hands though. get some good desolver. and make sure you push hard off the top of your pole. i watched a guy get his about a foot off the ground before he shook it loose.
