Lewis and Dennison on top form at Loughborough Open as USA’s Johnson impresses in the shot
Loughborough Indoor Athletics Open Meeting
UK Athletics High Performance Centre
Loughborough University
Saturday 16th December 2006
BRITAIN’S top two pole vaulters Steve Lewis and Kate Dennison were in fine early season form at the first of the Loughborough Open Indoor meetings held at the East Midlands UK Athletics High Performance Centre on the university campus, writes Mark Woolley.
Lewis, the 20-year-old Melbourne Commonwealth Games Bronze medallist returning to action following his broken wrist that curtailed his outdoor season claimed victory with a winning height of 5.30m ahead of Birchfield Harrier Scott Simpson.
Dennison, the 2006 AAA indoor champion, virtually competed against herself with only Gateshead’s Sally Scott for company in the two-women competition.
The 22-year-old Loughborough based Sale Harrier, who as with Lewis is under the guidance of the UKA performance centre manager and world class coach, Australian Steve Rippon, recorded a best height of 4.05m to win the event.
