So, I'm assuming that most of the high school population here (at least) knows about the websites where you can type in your name and it comes out with crazy facts including it. I typed "pole vaulters" into one of them that my friend found and thought that one of the "facts" was particularly fitting:

Tradition allows women to propose to pole vaulters only during leap years!
Try it and see if you can come up with anything funnier
Makes sense...

Pole vaulters are actually a vegetable, not a fruit.
Well now if someone asks what polevault is, I can tell them it's a vegetable.
heres the link for Pole-vaulters:

If you drop Pole Vaulting from more than three metres above ground level, they will always land feet-first.

informative and amusing:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pole_vault
However if the pole breaks during the execution of a vault, the competitor will be allowed another attempt, assuming they can still walk.
...the vaulter's main concern is making sure that his arms, face and any other appendages do not knock the bar off as he goes over.
The pole vault is exciting to watch because of the extreme heights reached by competitors, and the inherent danger of the activity, two elements which combine to make it popular with spectators.

You are obviously not familiar with the So Cal tradition that states all vaulters must vault nude (spikes are allowed) on the eve of their wedding.
I believe Borya Celentano has the nude WR with 5.10m (16-8 3/4). This was a nude jump just for fun, not prior to a wedding.
