Lindenwood pole vaulters looking for a new home

Unread postby PVDad2 » Sat Jun 03, 2006 4:42 pm

Talking to other coaches doesn't mean they actually have to leave Lindenwood.

I think you have to be careful of this. This spring a partial scholarship girl vaulter (at another NAIA school that my son's school vaults against) wanted to talk to coach at a NCAA Div 2 school about a better scholarship and better coaching. Her current Head Coach made her sign a release of scholarship document before she was allowed to even talk to the other school. Her mom told me all about it. She made it sound like the other school's coach couldn't even talk to her until the release was signed. The girl went ahead with it anyway, let go of her existing scholarship and even lost her status as a member of the team. It sounded pretty rough on the kid but I think that might be the rules. Best to look into it first before cutting any ties prematurely. Good luck to your friends.

Lindenwood honors their scholarships until you graduate, regardless of participation in a sport. NAIA counts scholarships based on who competes, not on who is getting money. Lindenwood's scholarships are based on a mix of academics, athletics, and need, and they never adjust them once you sign your package.

So while at any other school, getting a release would probably jeapordize your scholarship, that's not the case at LU.

I would imagine so. Mark can always get a pit from a high school if he needs to. Email Mark for more info, or PM me and I will give you his cell #.

hey

lane is awesome........

who is the new head coach?

they had good sprinter.... did they move coach up??

it's tough for the vaulters... but if they are close to graduating they should thinkof staying.. as long as they will get poles and the oppurtunity to jump..

We actually lost our good sprint coach last year. An athlete who graduated last year coached them this year. I don't believe any of the coaches are returning, and the new coach is too busy trying to meet his quotas from the admissions office to worry about getting new assistant coaches (from what I hear).

The new coach is Jim Cox. Word on the street is he is an old friend of the school president. He works in the admissions office and coaches Arena Football. I think he used to coach track at Mo. Valley back in the day. He is really more of a football coach.

The pole situation will be questionable next year. Lindenwood owns very few poles, we owned most of them ourselves. The school bought the girls 5 poles. The rest of the 50 girls poles we had were mine, Lane's, Erin's, Peggy's, or Kerri's, and most likely none of us will be back.

Same thing for the guys. The school owns a few random ones, most of the rest came from Francis Howell HS, Jackson HS, Lane, John, Matt, Graham, or Ryan H. John might be back next year, but the rest of those poles will not.

hey

tough spot.... pole vault success has always followed a good pasionate coach... always..

are there any other schools close to the homes of the vaulters that have a coach for the vault?

plus check the ncaa district, national, naia national results... that's the best schools to start with if some want to tranfer..

south florida in tampa has a good coach and environment going..........

is john creer the AD??

Yup. This decision came from above him. Coach Creer is a good guy.

Updates:

John Ryland is transferring to Arkansas State.

Stu McIntosh is going to return to Lindenwood and retire from pole vaulting. He had offers from other schools, but he will graduate faster if he stays at LU, and does not want to try to vault with no coach and no poles.

Ryan Hays is transferring to Kansas where he will vault for his dad.

Matt and Kerri Clifford have returned home to Canada, I don't know if either one will be attending school up there.

Erin Shafer is transferring to Doane.

Peggy Ovalle - not sure what she is doing. She might be stuck returning to Lindenwood.

Darcy Chase and Ryan Brinker are returning and will wait and see how things pan out.

Michelle Yonke is returning to Lindenwood and retiring.

Sarah Talimonchuk is transferring to SEMO, I don't know if she is doing track or not. I hope she is, she has a lot of potential.

Graduated: Me, Cheyenne Gentry, Mark Aschen, Graham Danziger.
