I don't have specific information, but www.va.milesplit.com is working on the story and may have video of the jump.

apparently, the website now says 17'0.25, so I don't know what's going on.

Mike actually attempted what he thought was 17-3/4 . When it was measured after the fact it was short at 17-1/4. The bar then went to 17-6 and he had one attempt with good clearance but brushed the bar on the way down. He followed it up with a 48.5 split on the winning 4x400 relay (3:19+)

It bothers me to hear that officials are taking measurements AFTER the jump. That is an incorrect procedure.
All measurements are to be taken BEFORE a jump.
Yes, years ago, that wasn't the case, but times have changed, requirements have changed, some re-education is needed.

First, Congrats to Mike! He's quite an athlete.

Second.....interesting input on measuring the bar twice. I was under the impression that was standard procedure. Sure will cut down on wait time in a meet. Thanks!
