6'6" in3 weeks ain't that bad. On the other hand there are several exercises and drills that you should have been doing up to this point besides jumping over a bar. The terminology will come in time and you have come to the right place for the answers. Go to Skyjumpers.com and Advantage Athletics.com and search those two sites for drills to do. Off the top of my head I would recommend what Jan Johnson calls jump overs and jump hits to start. You also need to practice pole carry and pole plants. From there you preceed to leg swing drills and swing-ups to an L position and then finally pop ups. All of these drills should be done on a stiff pole and you shouldn't be too concerned about jumping over stuff till you've mastered these intitial steps. This is definitely a walk before you run event so if you take the time to master the foundation of the sport now you'll see your heights go up and up and up. Good luck. Later...........Mike
P.S. Order the book Beginnerto Bubka and read it and learn how to jumpsafe and jump high!

Dont worry about progressing too fast, thats only going to make you injure yourself. When the time comes, you will make this drastic jump and be like "where did that come from??" Till then, just focus on doing what your coach says as best as you can. If you dont understand, ask someone to show you what it means.
and it took me awhile to get the terms too... ill list a few
pole-the thing you hold
bar-the thing you go over
standards-what holds up the bar, you can adjust it in or out according to what you like
box-the metal box you put your pole in before you go up
plant-very important!! its right before you go up how you put your pole in the box--with high right hand and straight left hand
drive-your right knee should be bent and close to your chest
swing-your left leg should be straight behind you, and after you hold it there for a little while, you swing it up to the sky
turn-take your right knee and whip it to the left so you turn over the bar
clean-you made it over the bar without any prob
mmk that should be enough for now--sorry if some of those were obvious but i didnt know what you knew already
oh ya, and this only applies if your right handed--if youre left handed switch everything
okay, hope that helped...
