So i was way off earlier with the progression of the record....i thought i read that somewhere, but i guess i didnt'.

I was at Edwardsville High School for a wrestling meet several years ago, and i routinely check out high school track and field record boards if i spot them. they listed their school record as 17'3" by McDonough. IHSA only keeps track of state records set in the state meet. the list of top performances on their website contains some non-state meet marks, but is generally not very complete except for stuff in state meet competition.

so, highest vault in illinois high school history in any meet is likely 17-3. indoors is almost certainly hanson this weekend, and at the IHSA state meet record is what you referred to above

I don't know about this, I think Greg Fenza from Ottawa high school jumped higher than 17-3 in the late 80s. I could be wrong tho, but ive heard something along those lines.

Greg Fenza jumped 17'00" in 1988. I thought he had the state record, but I forgot about McDonough.

Wow, Illinois does a poor job of keeping an official state record. Tisk Tisk IHSA

then how is edwardsville's school record 17-3?

it is above the "state record" but state records must be set in the state meet

of course, at worst it is VERY close to the best ever jump in the state

Now you have been in the IHSA so you know how screwy they are....but is it possible that the state record must be made in the state of Illinois.....edwardsville is right near the missouri border and it is quite possible that he jumped it at a meet in missouri.....anyone think that is a possibility
