Becca, do you have a blog on this site somewhere? Can you give a brief description of the competition? A final is a final, babe! Congrats, and good luck with outdoor preparations!

I have a blog at http://www.livejournal.com/users/rainbowgirl28/ but I don't update it much.

Nationals was OK. It was nice to have a reasonably sized field. Opening height was 3.35 which is pretty high for me. I opened at it 3 times last year, all successful, but the highest I had opened this year was 3.20. My best this year is only 3.40, so 3.35 is a pretty solid opener.

I had a really good warmups. Got on the biggest pole I have been on all year in a meet. My second to last jump was REALLY good.

Unfortunately, my first two jumps at the bar weren't as good. I did make it on my third, but it wasn't pretty.

I wasn't going to jump any higher bars on that pole, and it's a really small gap to the next pole, so we moved up poles. Unfortunately I ended up striding out a bit and not hitting the pole hard enough, leaving me unable to swing on any of my jumps.

Not a bad meet, but not as good as I wanted to do.

MUCH more importantly, our guys overcame quite a bit of adversity and came from behind to successfully defend their national title.

Our girls team, which got maybe 18th place last year, got 4th, which earned us a fat trophy :D

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Reigning NAIA outdoor national pole vault champion Amanda Haines of Siena Heights University added the indoor national championship to her career achievements on Friday.

Haines cleared 12-5 1/2 to claim the title over Meagan Bauer of Doane (Neb.), who cleared 11-11 3/4 . It is the fourth overall national title for Haines in her collegiate career (two NCAA Div. III, 2005 NAIA outdoor title).

Ex-La Pine vaulter places at nationals
By Bulletin staff report
Published: March 14. 2006 6:00AM PST
Chelsea Russell of La Pine had a knack for qualifying for championship events as a high schooler. That has carried over to her young collegiate career.

Russell, a four-time Oregon Class 3A state track and field meet qualifier from La Pine, competed in the 2006 NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships, held Thursday through Saturday at the Memorial Center in Johnson City, Tenn.

The Eastern Oregon University freshman, a 2005 graduate of La Pine High School, qualified for the meet in the pole vault, where she finished tied for fourth in the nation and earned NAIA Performance All-American honors after clearing 11 feet, 5?223-179? inches. She missed three attempts at 11-11?223-179?.

Russell qualified for the national indoor competition by placing first in the pole vault at the Athletes.com Invitational, held Jan. 28 at the Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho. She cleared 11-7 to win the event at that meet.
