nice! congrats to scotty

I wonder how off the standards were...when I worked the Sac Meet of Champions, we took to using rulers to make sure that the standards were exactly what they asked for. :P

From Dyestat.com

Boys Pole Vault - Scott Roth CA wins on a rare fourth attempt at 17-4.25, setting a new NIN meet record (Tommy Skipper 17-3.75 in 2003). When Roth missed on his third attempt, Michael Morrison VA and Jordan Scott GA were preparing for a jumpoff for first. But the officials ruled that the standards were set incorrectly (different depths, making the cross bar crooked) and awarded Roth a fourth attempt. He soared over cleanly. Roth then missed three times at a national record 17-7.

A big thumbs up to the officials for doing the "right" thing when a mistake was made. Sorry to say some officials are not "big enough" to do the "right thing". Good job officials.

How do they have Corey Shank's record in there already and not Spencer's?

the officiating at this meet was terrible. if you talk to anyone in the competition (including myself) that the did near everything wrong. To start of they refused to do 5 alive so vaulters were waiting at least 20 minutes between jumps. secondly their was practically no comunication between the head official and the standars people.

and the guy on the left standerd was messing up all day, on scotts jump he wasnted the standards at 40 so the guy just moved the standars up as far as they could go....which was basically 0. The person holding the flags had to tell the guy every time to check the standars. then on one of my jumps (as obseved by my bro and on tape) the official after giving me the flag to go moved the standards while i was in mid air.

the officiating was embarssing. i can understand if its bad at a dinky dual meet, but to be that bad at nationals it was qutie hartbreaking.

earlier that day the officials made a terrible call whin the official made the call that the jump was a make and waved his white flag, then once the kid stood up the bar fell off, then they ruled it a miss. that was a pretty bad move by them and anyone else can atestify that that jump should have benn called a make.

PS. last years winner was 16 feet....that got me 6th this year

Well it depends on why the bar fell. If the bar was bouncing around, the official should have waited until it settled to throw up a flag. If the bar fell because the standards were being adjusted, it should have been ruled a mark, but if the bar fell because of anything the vaulter did, it's a miss, no matter how long after the jump it happened.
