Big East Indoor Conference Venue Change

Unread postby VaultMarq26 » Thu Aug 11, 2005 3:11 pm

So I have heard through a credible source that Syracuse can no longer hold the Big East Indoor Track and Field Championships after hosting it for the last 24 years. I know that there are some Big East Vaulters on this site. Anyone know what other Big East Schools have good indoor tracks?

U of New Mexico just got the Mountain West Indoor from Air force. Mondo indoor facility to be put into the convention center. 5 indoor meets scheduled for next year.

Mondo is the way to go. It also hurts alot less if you fall while running or vaulting. Less skin burn.

It's about time, the track at The Carrier Dome is so torn up, not to mention chunks missing on the vault runway. I would guess that they moved it to Notre Dame because of the addition of the schools further west. I've never vaulted there, but the guys that ran for us (villanova) gave it rave reviews.

The big problem with Notre Dame is that there isnt' enough room. At the big meets they have the high jump pit, sand pit, vault pit, and throwing ring on the infield. With all of the teams both guys and girls, there isn't much room for spectators, teammates, and warming up.

Is is for sure going to ND or just no where else to go?

If we do have it at Notre Dame, alot of people would PR accross the board. All the runways are elevated, and therefor fast, and the track is a 300 meter track. I know my coach is pushing for it too because it will save the team thousands of dollars in travel money.

I'm pretty sure the Big East Conference pays for everyones travel to the meet, that's why outdoors is always at Rutgers and UCONN rather than Miami, where it should be.

You may think you want it in the south, but last year I had conference in Houston. It was 45 degrees when I left Milwaukee, and 90 when I vaulted. My body was not happy with me. The drastic temp change drained me really quickly.
