NF has a suggested way to do pole checks, but they leave it up to the individual state athletic office to formally define a procedure. Some require a signed form, some require a weigh-in before each meet.

It remains a problem at the high school level for several reasons, 1)field event coaching is in many locations takes a backseat to running events 2) These younger athletes don't recoginze the potential danger and 3) yes, officials contribute to the problem by not checking at every meet.

There is no rule requirement to check poles ratings conducted under NCAA rules. I do believe that those vaulters know better and are better coached.

USATF youth meets require a check, but there is no real procedure on just what to do. Since many officials do a lot of "open" meets, they tend to forget about this relatively new change in rules just for the youth level.

The youth were weighed very strictly at the USATF JO Nationals this year.
They did not weigh anyone at the AAU JO Nationals. AAU follows USATF rules for youth meets.

They didn't weigh in at any of our qualifying meets, and I doubt very many of the other regions weighed in either.
