When I was in school, a bus driver asked if they were the goal posts! I tiold him we normally don't use goals post in T&F. In the airport, someone thoughtn they were one of those long crew boats.

I feel that a follow up to my good things to say is now appropriate.

Bad things to say:
1)They are pole vault poles but I'm just using them as a way to sneak C4 onto the plane.
2)Its an anal probe.
3)Inside of this tube that I carry on my shoulder is the worlds largest fountain pen
4)They are unused bangaliers from WWII that we are taking to our museum.
5)Duh...what tube
Damn its hard to keep these clean
6)Yup, I'm the owner of B&S Plumbing and I'm headed to the national convention to show off my new prototype C-254 underground pipe casing.
7)Its an old Indain totem pole for worshiping the forces of evil.
8)Nothing at all I just use this as a way to attract attention
9)Use your imagination
10)Tell the truth. Its filled with long stiff poles that have rubbers on them

Sorry about that last one I just couldn't resist
I wear a helmet

Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them-a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill. - Muhammad Ali

You know I have a theory about people not involved with the sport of pole vaulting. Everytime someone ask me what I do and I say Pole Vaulting, it never fails that that person:
1)Tried it in highschool (but had to quit because they snapped the 'stick thingy' in half).
2) Had a brother/sister/friend/boyfriend/girlfriend who did it (but had to quit cause they snapped the 'stick thingy' in half).
Serioulsy has anyone ever met someone who has said that they have no connection to the sport at all? Or hasn't made a comment or reference about breaking the pole, I think I have only met 2-3 people that haven't since I have been vaulting, which is about 10 years. Maybe its just me.

When we went to the plumbing supply store to get the plastic pipe stuff....(I always get the letters messed up ??PVC?? pipe :P ) to make a carrier for the poles for the car, the guy asked me what it was for. I told him it was for pole vaulting poles. He very quickly told me he didn't think it would bend enough to use to pole vault  It was one of the times I just couldn't stop myself from dying laughing at someone's stupidity. :o Of course I told him it was not for her to VAULT with but to put her poles inside. He said..."well I wasn't ever an athlete---I didn't know". I just couldn't help laughing at him thinking of Jodie running down the runway and planting that pipe and trying to vault with it :dazed:

Love the PVC pipe story. Hilarious. Love the top 10 bad things to say too. Most of the people I tell that I pole vault don't know what it is. Then when I tell them I usually get an "Are you crazy?" response....which I usually follow up with a good laugh and a big smile :D

Gotta love it!!!

Today when we went to get an Xray on her hip, they asked what sports Jodie did. She said track..pole vaulting, gymnastics, diving, and cheer. Their comment was..."girls pole vault?" Where have they been???? I'm sure Arkansas' women vaulters have been through there at least once! Anyway, to make a long story short, the problem with her hip is one they see with cross country runners. Her cheer coach has been making them run long distance. So now she CAN'T do it (run long distance)! Doctor's orders! Whew... :P

I have been pulled over by the state patrol just to find out what the hell was on the side of my car. Two poles in tubing going to a track meet.
