Video Review: Male HS vaulter going 13' 6"

1st Vault - Bar at 13' 6" using a 14'-160 lbs
2nd Vault - Bar at 14' using same 14'-160 lbs
3rd Vault - Bar at 14' using 14'-165 lbs
4th vault - Bar at 14' using 14'-165 lbs

Because he barely cleared 13' 6" I thought of just moving him on to a bigger pole (we didn't move his hand grip) to try to get more out of the pole, but it seems he is not getting much energy off the pole unbending because his center of gravity is below his hands during inversion (and he really isn't getting inverted, just getting his feet up). To get him to rotate around his shoulders and not his hips, it could be a strength or body awareness thing, but I'm also wondering if he isn't given enough time to get into the correct position because the pole is unbending too fast? Would moving him down a pole (we also have a 14' 155 lbs) and raising his grip to achieve the same pole speed, allow him more time or would the decrease in lbs give him less off the top end? Would you ever do the "pull down on your top hand" thing that i was always told not to do to?

What suggestions might the rest of the PV world have for us?

Thank you in advance :)

His plant is late. A taller plant and jumping up and through the pole with his hands should help him easily get on the bigger pole and go a long way toward fixing the swing issues. Most swing issues are rooted in the plant and takeoff and that is where I would spend time working.

He is under on his step. By a whole shoe. Also, he lacks a knee drive after takeoff. Work on his run plant takeoff and a good drive knee. I agree his plant is late.

Thanks so much, I'll work on adjusting his step!
