Worst facility to ever vault at

Unread postby nolevault » Thu Mar 11, 2004 11:30 am

As a high school vaulter in 1986, I vaulted at a pit that was composed of spare tires bolted together topped off with bags of old football pad foam in plastic bags. No front buns and the box was right in front of the tires, for added excitement. The first vaulter to warm up would usually stirr up the hornets' nests inside for a real crowd treat. After vaulting 15' that year and nearly killing myself, I brought our school pit with us the next year. I want to hear about other places that were considered or are still considered hazardous to vault at.
The greatest gift I ever received was the look on a young vaulters' face after setting a PR!

i vaulted at a school my freshman year where i could move the box side to side 6" and back and forth about 8". The standards was the kind you had to pick up and move to where you want them, max height was 12ft because they were rusted shut. The mats was laying on this wood platform and when you landed you would hit the wood cause the mats were just junk. the runway was part of lane 8/grass. Not fun at all
