Build rolling cover from a carport?

Build rolling cover from a carport?

I'm coaching the PV at Casa Roble High School near Sacramento, CA. We just got an all weather track and are getting the pole vault up and running after a long hiatus. We bought a new pit, new standards and some poles. We would like to have a rolling cover but can't afford another $10K at this time. We were thinking about buying a carport with sides and making a rolling cover from this. Has anyone ever tried something like that?

I've seen homemade ones out of chain link fencing.
