Info Team. The leaders of French athletics are not varnished. After ankle fracture Teddy Tamgho in July, it was the turn of Renaud Lavillenie suffer a setback. European champion Tuesday broke his left hand during training by breaking his pole in three. A radio showed a fracture of the third metacarpal with a small rotation, but it was not possible to know if the joint was affected.
Professor Jean-Paul Haloua must operate the Habs on Wednesday at 11 am at the clinic of Chataigneraie in Clermont-Ferrand. A consolidation phase between 4 and 6 weeks is expected. But his coach Damien Inociencio remains resolutely optimistic and plans to work on cardio and running before returning his protégé perch mid-January or at worst in mid-February with the line of sight the world championships in Istanbul on 9 on March 11. - NH

Re: Lavillenie Breaks Hand
Lavillenie says on his website that the doctor did his work with no problem. He now has 2 screws in his metacarpe, and he will take care of his back, which suffered a little when the pole broke.
He should be able to use a pole in 6 weeks.

Slowly does it for Lavillenie on road to recovery
11 January 2012, 16:46
Two-time world pole vault bronze medallist Renaud Lavillenie is still two weeks away from resuming training with a pole as he recovers from surgery on his fractured left hand.
Lavillenie went under the knife early last month after a training accident, but a meeting Wednesday with the surgeon who carried out the procedure didn't see him leave with the green light for full training.
"After examining the X-ray, the surgeon was happy with the ongoing knitting of the fracture but you could still see the fracture line," said Lavillenie, the 2010 European champion who will be among the favourites for the world indoors in Istanbul in March.
"He's now authorised me to use my hand 'normally', so I can resume weight training, exercises on the fixed bar etc, but not the pole.
"I've still got two weeks without the pole so as to not overburden the bone. A tough wait but a necessary one so the bone sets 100 percent solid."

Re: Lavillenie Breaks Hand
approach run technique and accuracy.....
stretch the last steps...
result flat takeoff with no "up"impluse..
results in pole overload...with not enough movement up during the critical max bend stage...
breaks at the top and bottom of the sail piece....
result.. 3 pieces and broken hand

and when you jump 90 times in a 3 hours training session, this can easily happen.

With Hooker, at least.
I was wondering if there is a list of high failed attempts, like Hooker and Lavillénie at 6,16 m
I think Bubka never tried higher than his world record, as he improved centimeter by centimeter.
Markov or Tarasov, after clearing 6,05m , have they tried a higher bar ?

Vaulters I know of who have taken shots at 6.16 in meets:
Lawrence Johnson, Brad Walker, Steve Hooker, Renaud Lavillenie. Hooker was relatively close, but not compared to Bubka's jumps where he was WAY over the bar.

Markov attempted 6.16 after clearing 6m in New Zealand for the first time.
Tarasov was notorious for never continuing after winning a competition. The only reason he jumped 6.05 was because Bubka forced him to. If Bubka would've went out at 6m that day, Tarasov would've surely stopped there. He probably left at least 6.10 on the table by not taking shots at it.
"You have some interesting coaching theories that seem to have little potential."
Re: Lavillenie Breaks Hand
good morning
This is the best run and "MID" Six Step Mark I have even seen on any of Lavillenies' jumps.
It would be very good for him to know where the sixth step was on this jump and use that as his "monitor"…
out from that mark would force him to stretch and takeoff flat... in to much from that would force him to "back off/chop to keep from being under...
This run with the standards 7/10cm closer... could produce a world record…
The step turnover , balls of the feet "under" the COM gave him a crisp "up" impulse… which let the pole "pick him up" and move him, fast, through the swing…

Lavillenie 6.02 miss but best MID/run
