Carbon poles are much more expensive than fiberglass.
The benefit is that they are lighter to carry.
Most high school vaulters do not use a heavy enough pole for the difference between carbon and fiberglass to matter.
So, in effect high school vaulters are wasting their money on carbon poles.
Essx poles actually have very little carbon in them. This is why they are less expensive than pacer carbons.

What Barto said and also they are much harder to catch up to for a beginner vaulter. They roll over much faster. Jump 17 feet and we will talk more about carbon poles. Lots of pro's and college vaulters use and love carbons not high school vaulters. You need a vault coach. I have a vaulter on a 13 160 jumping 13 feet he weighs 125. Gripping about 12.6.

Yeah, I know that. That's what I had to do when I tried for 11'6" at regionals. My point was that I think I'm ready for a stiffer pole because I'm overbending the one I'm on.

And never really heard of Altius?

What do you guys think I should get? I was liking the way the ESSX poles were looking.

Im in the same grade as you and ive gone through quiet a bit of poles the past two years. ive had 3 carbon poles (13' 160, 13'6"170, 13'9" 175) and i blew through all 3 in a matter of 6 weeks. i really disliked how they bended. their sail-piece was very low which made the arc of the pole much rounder than it should have been. i cleared 12'6'' at reigion last year with a carbon and i moved to a 14'6" 175 fiberglass pacer and cleared 13'6''. There was just a tremendous difference in the immediate height after takeoff. the carbons seemed to sag not matter how hard i tried to explode up on the plant. i would as a fellow high school vaulter recommend using a fiberglass no matter what you get.
