box cover

Hey our school doesn't have a box cover so every day we vault we have a tedious task of draining the plant box with buckets. I looked online and they seem quite expensive so i was wondering what I should do. Does anyone have any specs on how to create one?

Most box covers don't really keep the water out. I would spend your money getting something that will pump the water out. A few track catalogs have them, I think they also make such things for boats.

Small brooms work well. I remember going to a meet in Winter Park, FL where it stormed for 40 minutes every day and then was too hot and humid. The locals just left a broom next to the pit. Worked great, provided the water drained when it was swept out of the box.

Covers don't do well keeping water out...
However, a box plug works pretty darn good. While I've not seen one of these heavy plugs made, I'd guess they were fabricated at the time a track was being installed/resurfaced. They probably put a heavy plastic sheet into the box and poured in the urethane to fill it up to the top. Once cured, you pull it and remove the plastic. Fits real snug in the box.

They are really, REALLY are heavy, but keeps 98% of the box from being filled up with water. You might be able to make your own?

Try this method -- cheap and effective (watch the second one first).
