Repairing Tears in Pit Mesh ?

Unread postby Darth Vaulter » Sun Jul 11, 2010 4:58 pm

Any thoughts on repairing tears in the vinyl coated mesh fabric on pole vault pits? I'm thinking that some combination of glue, extra mesh fabric and perhaps heat will work. I have a couple of straight line tears in the mesh on our high school's pit 6 to 10 inches long.

Darth, If you're talking about the top cover mesh, I've had pretty good luck (shoot, anything I've had to sew back together, top cover mesh, vinyl pad covering even the weather cover) with fishing line. In fact I sewed a hook back into the mesh today using the fishing line. Holds pretty well.

The pit I jump on was ripped right in the middle behind the box. what we did was repair the original cover as best we could, then take another piece of the vinyl material and sew that over that. we know a seamstress with a heavy duty machine though. so maybe the fishing line will work for you.
