When i was 14-15 i was 135 Ibs 5'9 and tried desperately to gain weight. I could bench about 200 and clean maybe 160, squat under 235. i was pretty quick too. Now im 19 and 165-170 still 5'9" and can bench no more than 240, but the strength is very distributed. However, i'm having to watch out now and actually i'm trying to cut a little weight, because going above 170 being 5'9" is less than ideal for 5.50+ aspirations. Im 8% body fat. I'd like to cut that to about 6 and be down to 160 or less.
Point is... when i was younger i tried and tried and could not gain weight. All the lifting i did kind of catapulted me (no pun intended) once i really started maturing, and i overshot what i would consider ideal body weight. Your body will adjust to the demands that you put upon it, so it's important to emphasize running just as much, or more than lifting, and to keep your strength gymnastic-related. Let your body take care of the rest, and when you get older you will be perfectly balanced. It does a vaulter no good to bench 250 Ib's if they cant do 15 pull-ups or do repeated bubkas on a high bar.

And the pull-ups and bubkas won't do you any good either unless you can run with the pole efficiently!

Em... Yes, Yes they will. Vaulter A can not run and has no strength or technique, Vaulter B can not run but has strength and technique. My bet is Vaulter A jumps higher... Yes running good with a good pole drop is good, but we are concerned with strength in this thread....

Here are two good videos with some good relative strength building gymnastic exercises
http://www.piratevaulting.silversax.com/Pirate%20Vaulting%20(Videos).htm
First video is just relative strength training, mostly sholders and core. Second one is pole vault specific drills on high bar.
Im about to make another one with some more stuff like bubkas under the ballance beam, sholder stand leg lifts on beam, ring swinging drills, ect, ect... We also got some pretty cool wall flips I need to throw in there (you know working on quick feet and jumping and everything).

Alright thanks. I'll work on sprints also. I'm looking up some more highbar exercises now for this afternoon.
