Re: Weltklasse Zürich, Friday Aug 28
Brushed it slightly on the way up and it jiggles a little and stays. She looks super surprised and is crying because she is so happy.
Re: Zürich - New World Record for Isinbayeva 5.06!
Ridiculous.
She seems to need to be pissed off by something (a close competitor, trash talk, or in this case her own previous failure) to break a WR.

Isinbayeva sets pole vault world record; Bolt wins
By NESHA STARCEVIC (AP) – 16 minutes ago
ZURICH — Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva bounced back from losing her world title by setting a world record of 16 feet, 7 1/4 inches in the Weltklasse meet Friday.
Isinbayeva set the mark in her first attempt at the Golden League meet, improving on her leap of 16-6 3/4 at Beijing a year ago in winning her second Olympic gold medal. She has broken the world outdoor and indoor marks 27 times.
Isinbayeva lost her title at the world championships when she failed to clear a height.
"I was fresh, I was aiming for the record," Isinbayeva told the crowd at Letzigrund Stadium.
By winning the pole vault, Isinbayeva stayed in the jackpot hunt, as well as Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia, who cruised to victory in the 5,000 in 12:52.32, the fastest time this year. Bekela won the 5,000 and 10,000 double in Berlin, after doing the same at the Olympics.

Isinbayeva sets pole vault record
Isinbayeva has dominated the women's pole vault in recent years
Russia's Yelena Isinbayeva went some way to making up for her World Championships disaster by setting a pole vault world record in Zurich.
Isinbayeva, 27, failed to defend her world title in Berlin last week when she did not manage to clear a height.
But she was back to her best in the Golden League meeting as she jumped 5.06 metres, improving her own mark by one centimetre.
Isinbayeva has now set 15 world records outdoors and 12 indoors.
Entering the contest at 4.71 metres, she easily cleared the bar at her first attempt and also had no trouble with her next jump at 4.81, before sending the stadium into uproar by clearing 5.06.
"In Berlin, I only had three jumps so I felt fresh," said Isinbayeva.
"This is unbelievable, crazy. Now I understand why there was that defeat in Berlin - to have this amazing result. It's like a dream, it's hard to believe."

Pole vault queen Isinbayeva banishes Berlin blues
Fri, 28 Aug 21:26:41 2009
ZURICH (AFP) - Pole vault queen Yelena Isinbayeva banished her World Championships blues by setting a new world record of 5.06 metres here on Friday while sprint king Usain Bolt overcame a "shaky" start to win the 100m.
Isinbayeva, who failed with all three attempts as arch-rival Anna Rogowska of Poland claimed gold at the recently-concluded worlds in Berlin, bettered her previous best mark of 5.05m set at the Beijing Olympics.
"Now I understand why there was that defeat in Berlin - to have this amazing result," the Russian said before a 26,000-capacity crowd at the fifth of the six-leg Golden League series. "It's like a dream, it's hard to believe."

Beautiful jump. Looks like Brian (VTechVaulter) is right... definitely more left arm going on this year.

It's the lead story on all the Russian sports news reports on TV here in Moscow this morning. Her compatriots are clearly relieved, if a bit bemused that she couldn't have done it last week instead.

Isinabeva silences skeptics with another world record

Pole vault queen Elena Isinbaeva, who seemed to have lost her throne after a failure in Berlin, has made a strong comeback, claiming her 27th world record at the fifth stage of the Golden League in Zurich.

The first woman to clear the historic 5 meter barrier has now raised the mark to 5 meters 6 centimeters.
“I was very upset after Berlin and some bad thoughts started to come into my mind. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong in training or I have some psychological problems,” Elena Isinbaeva told Russia’s Sport channel.

The Russian athlete, who has dominated the sport for five years, was unable to clear a single height at the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics in the German capital, allowing Anna Rogowska to celebrate a victory she never dreamed of claiming.
“I want to thank all the people who were near me and didn’t put me under unnecessary pressure. My dear coach Vitaly Petrov, my family, friends and fans – all of them tried to cheer me up saying: ‘It’s OK, Lena. Anybody can lose once. It’s impossible to compete and improve without failures’. Now I realize that they were right,” she said.
“I was in good shape in Berlin, but it was just not my day,” the 27-year-old added.
The win means the two-time Olympic champ stays in the hunt for a share of the million-dollar prize. An athlete has to win all six Golden League meetings to take the money.
“It all worked out in Zurich in the end. After this convincing victory and a world record, I feel I am on top again and I am the Isinbaeva I used to be,” she said.

From the head on shot, I don't see much bottom arm pressure at all. She does pull immediately a la agapit's manifesto.
