Pole Progression.

Unread postby BadMotherVaulter » Wed Feb 25, 2009 3:14 pm

Ok, i weigh around 140, i'm about 5-11"

I vault with a powerful swing and most of the time a free takeoff.

I've been on a soft 14' 150lb pacer pole... I'm wondering what the next logical progression would be for me, stiffer or longer or what? I have tried to get on a 14'7" UCS that feels medium-stiff and really have a hard time getting into it.
suck it up.

Do you have any video? What is the weight rating of the 14'7 pole? How much are you raising your grip when you go to it? Why do you need to move up poles (are you bending the pole too much/too much penetration/?) How high are you vaulting?

Oh hi becca!

No video yet, i'm sorry and i'm working on that.

The 14'7" ucs is rated at 150, and i might be raising my grip one handhold when i move up the pole, so i'm probably gripping at 13'10 or 14'

The pole i'm vaulting on now is just like butter, i'm really overbending it and not getting much return out of it at the top of my vault. I'm vaulting at a bungee on 14' most days.

*EDIT* I got a video uploaded from this past monday's session, i'm sorry that its sideways. It bugs the CRAP out of me when people hold a camera longways to take a picture or video.

From a 14' 150 to a 14'7 150 is a jump of between 8 and 12 pounds - that's pretty large when you are at your max speed and grip height. The next pole up from a 14' 150 is either a 14' 155 or a 14'6/7 145. The Pacer vs UCS issue should not matter much with regard to the stiffness of the pole. They measure out very close to each other.
