relnews Rovereto, Italy - Ten Olympic medallists from Beijing including two individual gold medal winners, along with two potentially great competitions in the Triple Jump and Shot Put will highlight the Palio della Quercia EAA Permit meeting in Rovereto, which is the oldest Italian one-day meeting.

Rovereto which celebrates its 44th edition on Wednesday 10 September has attracted two individual Beijing gold medallists Valerie Vili from New Zealand (women’s shot put), Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser (100 metres), and two relay champions, Michael Frater (4x100 relay) and Yevgeniya Polyakova (women’s 4x100).

The Palio della Quercia in Rovereto is the last meeting of a select group of Area fixtures at which points can be acquired by athletes to qualify for the IAAF / VTB Bank World Athletics Final, to be held on 13-14 September in Stuttgart, Germany.

Another 2008 Olympic medallist expected to compete in the Palio della Quercia is Pole Vault bronze medallist Denys Yurchenko from the Ukraine who will be challenged by compatriot Maksim Mazuryk and US veteran Jeff Hartwig.

Not sure if Hooker will actually compete at the WAF.

Despite a silver medal at the Olympics (not sure if the Olympics count for WAF rankings) Jenn Stuczynski is on the bubble to even make it into the meet.

Apparently Beijing doesn't count...

Code: Select all

Standing Details: Jennifer Stuczynski (USA) - Pole Vault

Date        Venue              Mark  Position  Points
31/05/2008  New York City, NY  4.80     1        10
25/07/2008  London (CP)        4.81     2        16
29/08/2008  Zürich             4.75     2        16

The IAAF jumps preview says "should she make the cut..." and you say "on the bubble...", but are there any meets left where she could still score points? I figured when she wasn't in Brussels that she'd called it a season. Is that not the case?

I think Rovereto is just men, so I don't think she has any more chances to qualify.

Hey wait a minute... That June 31st mark should be 4.90 not 4.80, shouldn't it? Is that worth any more points, or is it all based on finishing order and the stature of the meet?
