Day 2
Gig Harbor, WA to Sacramento, CA

Day 2 started out with Zack and I waking up at the buttcrack of dawn so that we could get on the road.

Zack's dad took this picture. We weren't really awake yet.

We didn't really make any stops until we got to Eugene, OR. Always got to make a stop in Track Town!

Here is the University of Oregon bookstore, from the outside.

And here is the inside. I bought a track t-shirt of course.

Here's Zack holding our lunches.

After a stop at the bookstore, we drove around until we found Pre's Rock. This would be the place that legendary distance runner Steve Prefontaine smashed his car into and killed himself. Every year runners stop by and pay homage, or something.

After that stop, we pretty much drove straight through to Sacramento. On the way we saw some interesting things...

We noticed that people like to tie stuff to their car. I get nervous driving behind them...

An agricultural inspection station. All traffic is supposed to stop and they ask you if you are smuggling any fruit across the border (well something like that). No one was there that day though... just sign saying to slow down and don't smuggle fruit across or California will fall into the ocean (well something like that). There is also one of these stations if you come into CA from I-40.

This guy had quite the mullet and matching truck... unfortunately Zack was too scared to get a good picture as we drove by (I was driving). I guess there is a legitimate risk of having a shotgun pulled on you... that would suck.

This car was just scary!!!

After a long day of driving, we made it to Sacramento, and met up with Wilson Soohoo at Macaroni Grill. We had a great time talking about all things pole vault. Afterward we headed to Wilson's house and hung out there and watched NeoVault. Zack got to sleep in the guest room and I got to sleep on the couch. He's too tall for a lot of couches, so I tend to get them.

Zack says: So we drove for a loooong time today. Went through three states. Had to stop in Tracktown USA and show Becca Pre's Rock and stop at the bookstore. We passed people with all their furniture and sleeping bags tied to their cars. Plus one good mullet sighting. We drove by Lake Shasta and I wanted to stop and go swimming but no luck as we were already behind schedule. Got to Sacramento and met up with Wilson Soohoo. I had never met Wilson before but hes an awesome guy. Anyway he treated us to dinner at a restaurant where he knew most of the waitresses. Talked PV for two hours there and then went back to his house and talked more and watched Neovault until 2.
