Bellingham LOSES 1A/2A State Meet

Unread postby rainbowgirl28 » Wed Aug 30, 2006 2:37 pm

I don't believe this has been announced publicly, but word on the street is that Bellingham is going to have the 1A/2A State meet taken away from it. The meet is rumoured to be moving to Mt. Tahoma HS in Tacoma.

Piecing together several different pieces of information I picked up:

It sounds like Mike Colbrese and others visited Civic last spring and was unhappy with the setup. He basically told the meet management to find a way to move the pole vault and long/triple jumps to the infield or risk losing the meet. They appeared to have trouble figuring out how to build a raised runway/sand pit for the horizontal jumps.

...it will be recommended to the WIAA Executive Board
that the 2007 (and 2008) State 1A/2A HS track meet
originally slated for Civic Field, Bellingham be moved
to Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma. The 'upgraded'
facility has made it nice for football/soccer, but not
for track and field, almost to the point of not being
able to hold even a district meet at the site.

I am curious what changes were made over the summer. Has anyone peeked in?
