Poland's Monika Pyrek caused the biggest upset of the evening when she relegated Isinbayeva to second place in the women's pole vault.

The Russian only managed to clear 4.62 metres, which was well short of her world record clearance of 5.01.

Pyrek also failed to go any higher but triumphed having cleared the height in an earlier attempt.

The loss did not worry Isinbayeva ahead of next month's European championships in Gothenburg.

"It was a little bit difficult because of the head wind, which made it hard to concentrate," the Olympic and world champion said.

"4.62 is obviously very low for me but this will motivate me for the future."

Isinbayeva will next compete at the Grand Prix meeting in London where she cleared five metres for the first time last year.

Defeat for Isinbayeva

The big surprise of the meet was Yelena Isinbayeva’s loss in the Pole Vault. Monika Pyrek of Poland was really close to clearing 4.72m on her third attempt. But 4.62 was enough to beat the World record holder, only the Russian’s second defeat during the last two years. She concluded last season with a no height in Yokohama.

Ukhov and Udmurtova beat the season world leaders in Stockholm, but Isinbayeva lost sensationally

Yelena Isinbayeva only cleared her initial height (4.62) on her 2nd attempt in contrast to Monica Pyrek, but at the following height (4.72) both vaulters could no longer take the bar. This became only the second defeat for the Russian woman in the last two seasons. Last year at the competition in Yokohama the world record-holder could not take her starting height.
