UNM Vaulter done for the season

Unread postby polevaultdad » Wed May 17, 2006 1:39 pm

Whitney Johnson, who 2 weeks ago broke the school record by jumping 13-1/4, is out for theseason. Johnson was ranked 6th in the Midwest region and was training for regionals. A freak accident while doing box drills resulted in torn ACL and MCL. While checking her step on the rubberized track at UNM, Johnson's pole caught a bubble or soft spot in the surface, the pole bent and launched Johnson in the air sideways.

Thanks

She was/is bummed - Plus now she will miss the beach this summer since she will stay in ABQ and rehab. That is the worst of it.

Are you going to Fresno?? My old stomping grounds.

Nope. I'll be coaching at DIII nationals that weekend. I'll be in Fresno a few weeks later on my way to Sacramento.
