Unread postby KYLE ELLIS » Thu Feb 03, 2005 1:25 am

If you guys were going to invest in some poles what would you have the difference in flex numbers be? .4, .5, .6, ???????Im not sure how it works so any help would be nice.

My small poles are 1.0 apart and my bigger poles are .8.

You should talk to whoever you are getting the poles from and see if they have suggestions. I think the big guys have .4 or .5 gaps.

I would buy all the poles you think you need by 1.0 first. Then after you jump on them for a while fill in the gaps by .5 where you seem to get stuck. Otherwise, if money is no object, go .5 all the way! :P

Depends on what you have to spend and how many poles you want in your series. 1.0 = 5lbs, so .5 = 2.5lbs. My old 15' series went like this:

18.1
17.3
16.8
16.3
15.8

I once borrowed a friend of mine's series that was .5 apart the whole way. It was nice because transitions were really easy, but I spent a lot of jumps blowing through on the bottom end, so that's why I'd go with a little wider spacing on the bottom and narrow it up a bit on the bigger poles.

IN the beginning of the season...

Unread postby Bruce Caldwell » Thu Feb 03, 2005 10:15 am

IN the beginning of the season... focus on 6.6 lbs then in the middle of your series try 4.4 lbs as you progress having at the end of the season a pole that is 2.2 lbs is a good way to inch in those PR's.

IT is very difficult for a manufacturer to hit a flex number please give them a range. We made 5 poles last week to get a 14.4 400/80x 13- 176

We got 14.9 14.1 14.8 14.2 then we got a 14.5 and shipped it so we have a few weird sizes 13-180's 173s, and 178s in stock now.

same as the 12'0"-60, 70, 80, 90lbs poles we made for Australia ended up with 1 or 2 small poles.
NIce poles was told that the other manufactuers could not make these??

Well I have been jumping on a 16' 185 17.0 flex (carbon skypole). The next pole That I can find is an old 16' 190? 16.0 flex(pacer carbon). I would like to have a little series of the carbonfx like from a 16.6 or .5 down to like a 15.0 or 14.8. So pretty much like 3 poles. Ive jumped on crappy old poles my whole life and if I make enough money with my new job I will probably buy 3 poles and a javelin. I am still in college and still broke as the next guy, but i save every dime and nickel as possible just ask my girlfriend lol.

In an ideal world, I'd like a .2 - .3 difference in my line. In the real world 0.5 is realistic with 1.0 being the maximum gap i'd feel comfortable with, but only poles 15' and under.

My 4.90 line in college:

19.4
19.0
18.8
18.4
18.0
17.6
17.4
17.2
17.0
16.8
16.6

I have some 15-6's that the flex's go like this
18.0
17.7
17.4
16.8

It seems real nice to not have huge gaps in the flex's, and I am going to order my poles by the flex rating from now on!

I prefer .4-.6'ish across the board.

5m
16.4
15.9
15.5
14.9

But I'll take what I can get. Don't really have alot of options. I've been known to jump from my 16.4 to my 15.5 and be fine but thats if I'm feeling spunky.
Your in College? Can't your coach get you some poles? That is alot of money you are talking about.

PS- That carbon sky pole looked like it had a real low funky looking bend. How do you like the feel of that thing? Thats got to bend lower than the FX.
