that is pretty cool.

I know that was only for the men, but dont forget Stacy Dragilla at the Santa Barbara beach vault- first woman over 15'. it was ruled a non WR because of an indoor runway, on a beach, outdoors..... we can thank that jump for ending the santa barbara beach vault- she stole all the money!!!!!!!!! ( but worth seeing) :D

After little research, and looking at a magazine. With the exception of Tim Mack and Igor Tradenkov, every vaulter that has clear 6.00 meters or higher cleared 6.00m first then moved on up from there! Mack and Tradenkov both went for straight for 6.01m.

What I want to know is how high Ferenc Salbert's pr was? he had to be a pretty good jumper to jump 6.02 on a downhill runway right? Ive never heard of the guy though.
On a whole new level 6-20-09

there have been many rumors over the years of Bubka's incredible pratice jumps - I've heard everything from 20'4 to 21'3. I do have some video of him attempting 20'8 in practice before the 96 Olympics. Some of his competition jumps suggest that this is not out of the realm of possibility (especially his 97 worlds victory at 19-9 - he had a good 8-10 inches on it)

There have also been several huge jumps at exhibition meets. Galfione's first 6 meter jump was in an exhibition as well as poor Ferenc Salbert who cleared 19-9 in a meet under the Eiffel Tower, then broke both his wrists and promptly disappeared...

VaultNGus said it, it must be true.

His best legal vault was 5.90. His career wasn't that long...blew out a knee or broke a leg and never jumped that high after that.

Which brings up a good thought. For non-WC years, a downhill street vault at the end of the season.

Imagine putting a 2% downgrade runway under Brad Walker sometime around now.

There would surely be looks at 6.15.

And that would bring people out. Maybe not the first year, but the next time...

Out of curiosity, anyone know how downhill that runway actually was? 2%, 3%, more?

On a side thought, maybe we could hijack Arkansas' indoor runway, take it to a beach with a great tailwind, and set it up at a 4-5% downhill grade. Invite all the 19+ footers you can find and have a supply of 5.20m-5.30m poles flexed from 7.0-10.0 and see who the first man over 21' will be. I would pay to watch that, and I would probably pay even more to take a few jumps myself. Anyone have the keys to the Arkansas indoor facility and an 18 wheeler.......
