OLD Pacer III's

Unread postby whoisjohnlamb » Tue May 10, 2011 7:22 pm

unfortunately, last Friday during my conference meet I snapped my OLD and well used Pacer III 160 14'. If i didnt snap that thing i would of won w/ a personal best of 13' feet easy. PISSED. Keep in mind i weigh 155.

Anyway, since thats the only pole I could use, my coach bought some more OLD Pacer III's, but get this.... they are brand spanking new. They were made in 1985 for pete's sake. But i just got them out of the tube for the very first time. I got a 14' 160, a 15' 155, and 15' 160, and a 15' 165. So here are my questions:

1. Am I at a disadvantage of using these ancient poles?
2. Are these poles stiffer than the one I made explode into 5 pieces?
3. The old instructions say to grip no higher than 12" from the top, can i go higher?
4. why can I put so much of a bend in the used 160 to snap it and not in the new stick? the new one is stiff as sh*t

until i can get on one of these new ones, I am forced to use a newer UCS/Spirit 13' 160 at 4 lefts and about a 11'6 grip. standards at 20.

5. If i move my standards back and my grip up about 2 hand holds, do you think i'll be blowing through too much and not get any height?

My county meet is tomorrow and I really want to place lol.

I'm guessing those poles do not have weight labels? You'll need to contact Gill Athletics ASAP to get the right label for each pole.

How did you know lol? They dont have a big sticker just the smaller colored label. I suppose the since the flex chart has changed, i will need to get them relabeled.

The numbers on the small colored label aren't big enough to meet the requirement for the rules. Not sure if the weight ratings will be any different, if so, probably not by much, 13'+ poles haven't changed that much over the years.

The poles themselves should be fine. I got a never been used 10'6 Pacer III, I think also 1985, a few years ago. I sent it to the factory to get re-flexed and recertified (because the shorter poles have changed a LOT since 1985) and now it's an awesome little pole.
