How Large a Pole...

Unread postby ClintonMagus » Fri Feb 25, 2011 11:30 am

... can a very good high school girl pole vaulter, 5'-4" and 110 pounds, expect to jump on during her high school career? I realize this is sort of a loaded question, but I simply have no feel for this right now. Assuming she will eventually jump 12 feet or higher, do girls this size jump on 140-pound poles? 150-pound poles? Larger?

It just depends a lot on height, weight, speed, technique, how well she jumps up at takeoff, etc. The weight of the pole is dependent on the weight. Most 12' HS girls are probably on 13' poles 10-30 pounds over their weight, though IMO some would jump better on a 12'6 pole :)
