13 folks made the cut and it's a star studded field and finally
FINALLY we have a true blue New Englander. Wheaton College's
Noelle Battista - a resident of Warwick, RI is the ONLY NEW
ENGLAND VAULTER at the NCAA's this weekend whether it be DI, DII
or DIII. She's ranked #3 here but it'll be tough to crack the top
2. Richard Stockton's Kim Marino swept the indoor and outdoor
titles in 2003 and Amanda Haines from Adrian College snagged a
huge PR a few weeks back. Between those three and senior Karolien
Batiaens of St. Thomas that should be your top 4. It'll be a war
behind 'em for the remaining spots onteh medal stand.

Don't know what happened to last year's second placer Angela Hilgers
of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She's jumped unattached a few times this
year - don't know if she's still with the squad or what.

Last year I said Kim Marino was inconsistent. I stand corrected.
She's head and shoulders above the rest of the field when you
compare the season as a whole. She' sthe only one in the field
to have cleared 13' and she's done it on two separate occasions
culminating in a 4.09 13'05 PR that would've qualified her for
the DI championship.

representative in any division and if things go right could upset
Marino. If not she's definitely in line for top 3. Only loss to a
DIII competitor was at last weekend's ECAC meet where she got beat

Kelly was having an average frosh season when she PR's by nearly
a foot on the 21st. She followed that up with her first 12' jump
in winning the tough WIAC championship. Not bad for a gal that
could only manage 8th in her HS state championship last year.

Cat's a cool kid. She has to be considering her head coach is "Sluggo"
Slovenski - my old collegiate vault coach. Yikes. Doesn't seem to have
warped her too much yet. Looks like her vault coach Eric is keeping
her in line. She's PR'd quite a few times this year and has been
comnsistent in the mid 11's. Took a suprising 3rd at the all-division
New England Championships a few weeks back. Still looking for that
12-footer...

All hail Hans! Swept the indoor and outdoor titles in 2003 and
has an outdoor crown from '01 (and an '01 indoor runner-up) as
well. He's got over a foot on the field and would've qualified
as the #6 seed in the D1 meet. About as sure a lock as you can
get. The next highest returner from the indoor meet is 10th place
finisher Brian DeLoreia who is ranked second this year. Besides
those two the only ones with previous experience at the indoor
show are Nick Pergade and Ryker Jones. Other than that it's all
newbies

Those newbies are gonna have a tough battle ahead of 'em but watch
out for upstart Chris Swanson of Otterbein. How much has he improved
this year? Scroll down and see. I think you'll be amazed...

Last year's #3 Keenan King has been chilling in Arizona training
with the Sky Athletics crew. #4 Jon Wagner is MIA this season and
#5 Shawn Trimble vaults for Eastern Oregon which has bolted for the
NAIA.

Where did this guy come from? Prior to this season the highest
jump I had for Chris was a 3.58m 11'09.00" from last April. This
year he opens at 15'01.75" and ends with three stright 16'+ jumps.
If I read that correctly that's over FOUR AND A HALF FEET of
improvement. Doesn't look like he's stopping there either...

Last time I talked to Hans coach he was using 15'6" ers and had a few 16's waiting. He brings and gets on top of the pole good he'll jump 5.60 and make the trials.

No he is from the Lacrosse area there is alot of talent up there and just think they go to school with no athletic scholarships. Man alot of D1 school would love to have some of the talant that come out of that area. They always come to KU relays and put up a good showing.

i was very happy for hans's pr. he is a great guy and that 18' was a long time coming.

Back in 2000 indoors, we were both freshmen at nationals. If i remember right he was on 16's then. He had some serious sticks. I think the only guy on bigger poles was Brad Paris and he was on 5m spirits. I'll check the video... Funny thing is he was jumping 17-17'6 back when, just kept coming down on it.

I jump at La Crosse... Hans jumping 18'1" was huge for him. Hes had the hip height for it for quite a while now, to see him finally get it--it's jsut amazing.

As for the poles he is on, at DIII's he was jumping on a 16' 190 and a 16' 195. He has jumped on 16'5"s, and sometimes he jumps on 15'6"s in practice, but usually competes on 16's.
