Diamond League to field 14 meets in '11
Associated Press
PARIS -- Track and field's governing body has unveiled the calendar for the second Diamond League season, with the opening meet set for May 6 in Doha.
Like this year, the Diamond League will feature a series of 14 international meets across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the United States.
The Diamond League replaced the Europe-based, six-meet Golden League this year. The 2011 season will end in Brussels on Sep. 16.
IAAF also confirmed Tuesday that the Gateshead meet in England on July 10 will be moved south to Birmingham.

Global TV audience triples; Calendar and Event Disciplines distribution for 2011 – Samsung Diamond League
Samsung Diamond League season 2010 - TV REPORTSamsung Diamond League season (Diamond Race) per discipline 2011
Monte Carlo - The success of the inaugural year of the Samsung Diamond League has been strongly endorsed by the international TV figures revealed by its broadcasting partner IMG Media.
Compared to TV coverage in 2009, the 14 meetings who this year joined together to form the Samsung Diamond League, the top tier of track and field’s new one-day meeting structure, have seen world audience totals nearly triple in 2010, with the hours of coverage dramatically increasing too.
“The news from our TV partners is exceptionally encouraging,” confirmed IAAF President Lamine Diack who is also Chairman of the Board of the Samsung Diamond League. “We jointly set out to reinvent the one-day meeting structure of our sport, to bring clarity to the elite international athletics competition which takes place outside the World Championships and Olympic Games. As witnessed by these TV figures the general public’s huge take-up shows an understanding of what we are trying to achieve and is a ringing endorsement that the Samsung Diamond League is on the right track.”
“While there remain many challenges ahead if we are to make further advances and cement the Samsung Diamond League’s position as one of the world’s major sports series, we firmly believe that along with the acquisition of a title sponsor earlier this year, we have made an exceptionally good start in 2010, and we eagerly look forward to 2011.”
The Assembly of the Diamond League meeting in Monaco held a constructive two days (Mon 22 / Tue 23) of discussions, which included final decisions regarding the distribution of event disciplines for next season which are now also being announced.
Further announcements regarding the 2011 season of the Samsung Diamond League will be made in the coming weeks.
