Another pole transition question
Jonathan is using a 15' 165 gripping approx 14'3". This pole is rapidly becoming to soft. We have the opportunity to borrow 2 poles from another school, 15'6" 150 and a 15'6" 155. I dont know the flex numbers. My question is, gripping at 14'6" would these poles be stiffer or softer or equal?

The 15'6 150 might be a bit softer and the 155 would be approximately the same. It's really hard to say for sure, without all of the flexes.
I will say that the 155 will probably offer a bit more resistance if for no other reason than he'll be gripping further down into the sail piece, so it probably won't roll over quite as easily as the 15' pole, even if you were to flex them yourselves and they flexed the same.
They're worth borrowing, but they probably won't last him long if he is at a stage where he is progressing rapidly.
Re: Another pole transition question
Even though the 15'6 150 is a touch softer than the 15' 165 it will still let him adjust to 15'6 poles without too much anxiety. Try gripping 14 or 14'3 on the 150 to begin with before going to the 155. That should make the transition easier.

Re: Another pole transition question
Thanks for the advise. One thing I've learned over the years is having the right pole on the right day means everything. Problem is Jonathon keeps outgrowing every pole I buy him.
Re: Another pole transition question
He is going to have to be able to hold 14' 9" to be able to roll over the 15' 6"'s so try raising his grip on the 15 footer and that will also make the pole not so soft

Jerry you need to right away find the following poles all 15'6 160 165 170 Then a 16 foot series he will need all these before the year is up. He is a strong kid I think the 155 will be to soft for him. Call Jack anytime he knows vaulting poles better then anyone I know local.

Re: Another pole transition question
Thanks for your reply Kevin. I agree, Jonathan will progress thru half a dozen poles before he graduates if we can find them. Unfortunately, I can only afford to buy 1 or 2 more and the pole the school ordered will be too small when it arrives so that was also a waste of money.
