Bombings blow to Beirut hosting Asian Track and Field
RECENT bombings in Beirut have come as a blow to Lebanon’s hopes of hosting the 17th Asian Track and Field Championships scheduled from July 28-Aug 2.
Asian Amateur Athletics Association secretary, Maurice Nicholas, said a new venue is being sought as many countries had raised concern over the situation in Beirut, especially after the June 13 bombing which killed at least 10 people at the western waterfront.
A leading anti-Syrian Lebanese Member of Parliament, Walid Eido, was among the victims.

Also killed was his 35-year-old son and two bodyguards, who were travelling in a car.

“Security has been a major concern among countries participating in the championships.

“We have received requests from a number of countries like Jordan, Syria, South Korea and India to take over the host job, but nothing has been finalised yet,â€Â
