Last note on this topic. After the meet, I was talking to the head pv official about the broken box. He said that he got to the event a little late and some of the girls were already warming up. He said, "I heard this ping as a girl hit the box and it made me look up. The next girl went and again the strange sound. I ran over to the box and stopped the warm up when I saw the break."

There were a dozen or so coaches standing around letting their girls warm up without questioning the broken box or at least the odd sound.

Come on Coaches, it your job to inspect the equipment, even at your State Meet.

The good news is that that box is being replaced along with the concrete underneath this week before the boys meet this week.

Ha, well guess what the box had been broken since 2007, when I jumped on it for conference. I struggled in practice on it so I went from 4lefts and made 14'7 to win conference. My lowest height indoor from that year was 5.05
On a whole new level 6-20-09

This entire situation boggles my mind. It amazes me how many coaches will allow their kids to jump on unsafe pits without a worry in the world. I had to fight at probably half the meets this year to get the standard bases or concrete area's properly covered. I was the ONLY coach who even mentioned anything!!! I even shut down the girls competition before it started at our league meet because the pits weren't big enough.

Coaches, don't be afraid to speak up and stop a competition from starting if the facilities are not up to the rules. Find an official and explain what you see, he will get on your side in a hurry. My kids are some of the most consistently safe jumpers you'll see, but I still will not take the chance that they will never have a crash. You never know when something will go wrong, and at some point it will. Don't put your jumper, yourself, your school, and this sport in danger by being irresponsible as a coach.

I could go on and on, but I'll stop there.
