I agree with you on Becker's sprint mechanics, way too much pulling going on. And I was not looking at their WC jumps when I was talking about takeoff angles - just their general tendencies on most jumps.
Feofanova generally has a pretty low angle, but makes it work because she is not overgripping in the first place.

Feofanova
I am sorry but have to disagree with the comment about Feofanova being generally flat. For one she is generally on to outside of her takeoff and she is only a little over 5' tall. People with flat takeoffs tend to be way inside prior to take off though it is possible to power your way off the ground. I am basing the Feo. stuff on all of her vaults on www.stabhochsprung.com, providing the best footage available for free.[/quote]

my two cents
Based soley on this one vault shown on http://www.stabhochsprung.com/ 09.08.2002 München
The take off is in line with the top handgrip and what looks like a flat vault is a hip drag that stays low because she is pressing with bottom hand a bit too long. The pendulum pivot transfers to the shoulders rather than the top hand. If she would leap more at the takeoff and press more upward the pivot point of the pendulum will stay with the top grip. She was rising through the vault so it is not flat, but she did end up as a flat take-off would with the pivot of the shoulders.
But this is based on that vault. Does anyone have a more recent vault posted?
On the video of 20.09.2002 Madrid/ESP it is really a terrible hip drag. she needs to turn it into a power swing!!

Remember Svetlana is 5'4"...........on 14' poles gripping 13'11" and those poles are rated about 45 to 55 lbs over her weight. She does NOT overbend the pole...............heck she COULD raise her grip some. Just like the guys, a short girl will jump (look) a little different from a taller one. Thats not ALWAYS true but in this case I think it expains a ton. The main thing it shows is SHE knows how to VAULT unlike most of the other competitors.

Yes Swetlana Feofanova may be 5'4" The hip drag she displays gives her a lower center of gravity for a longer period of time than other 5'4" vaulters.
Her swing has more power in it than before!
(Remember the C of G on women is in the hips not the stomach as in men)
This jump compared to the others shows she allows the shoulders to roll back rather than throwing the head back as in previous Videos.
She still needs to finish her swing but a 14' pole only allows for so much with this short of a pole swing.
She uses what she brings down the runway well.
It seems those European Vaulters " Bring it" better than the others.

I have often said that vaulters do not jump with their thumbs in the top of the pole, this may be the exception LOL. With a grip that far above the center of the sail she has an oppertunity to better time with the pole.
