Altius poles
I am an old fart vaulter ( 47) and I just started vaulting after almost 30 years. I used to use the green catapoles. Are Altius poles just as good? Does the brand of a pole really make a difference unless you are attempting 20 feet?
I am trying to decide on a brand of pole to purchase for myself.
Thanks

thank you for your advice. Have you heard any critiques of the brand? And if so,what are they?
Thanks again.

Use the search button up above and type in the word Altius.
I've jumped on them. They're good poles. The carry weight tends to be a bit heavier than other brands, but that shouldn't be a big issue for you.
If I were you I would try and vault with a club so you can try out some different size poles, that way you will have a better idea of what you need to order.

Once again, thanks. The old catapoles were heavy and I didn't mind. As long as they bend more than alluminum. I did 16'6" with a green catapole. I jus t want to hit 11 or 12 feet and live to talk about it
Thanks

Thanks

I would agree with everything said already. Altius are by far the cheapest if you're on your own budget, and they are well-made as well. Personally, I've PR'ed twice with them (14' and 14'4"). However, they do seem to bend easier than other poles, so looking into a higher weight rating might be an option.
P.S. Truth be told, the pole in my picture was the one I used this year for those two PR's but I must admit I broke it recently! I don't think it was the pole's fault though, so you shouldn't worry about that.

I vaulted in Toms River NJ from 74-77. I vaulted at Rutgers with Bill Hartly and Billy Lang who I beilieve still has the state record. hartly did 16'3". I did my 16'6" while a frosh at Rutgers.
Which school are you at?
By the way, I like that the poles are softer. The older you are the less elasticity you have.

Paul Richards
I don't remember if I told you before, but a Paul Richards was my pole vault coach in hs and college. Is it you who suggested it might be the same man? He would be around 70 years old now.

Haha! I doubt it's the same Paul Richards. Although that white beard he's been sporting lately would suggest he's older than he really is. Paul is a genius when it comes to building poles and I think he can get you lined out with some good ones that will fit your needs. Go to http://altiusintl.com to get his info and give him a call.

I'm assuming this was aimed towards me...I just graduated this year from Monmouth Regional (Indoor & Outdoor State Champs!) I know the TR North Coach pretty well (Bob Amos) and of course I've talked to the other TR coaches as well. As for the state record, Adam Sarafian broke it 2 years ago with 17' 4.5".

I can't bellieve it! Bob Amos was at tr north when I vaulted there!
My name is George Naryshkin and I had the hs record there until I left. Bob went with me a few times to Rutgers to vault. Tell him I said hello and I'd like to talk to him.
