I'd like to raise our pole vault pit off the ground a few inches. I've seen pits with wooden palletts under them but this is not what i want. I have seen thinner plastic type palletts that clip together which might be pretty good. I've also considered those 3'x3' interlocking tiles you see in health clubs but they are only about 3/4".
The problem we have is, although the pit sits on a concrete surface, water does get the under side of the pit wet and its beginning to mold.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Tires? Drill some holes in the tires so the water doesn't pool in them too much and breed flies.
Pallets aren't so bad as long as they aren't poking out of the edges of the pit.

At our place we use discarded 1" wire racking from warehouse that was dumping them. They are flat and low but allow for good air flow. The bad news is that the pits slide easily on them.

Becca is right about the tires. The inside of the tire is great for putting the moth balls in too. Makes for a really nice soft landing as well. Now the best part, go to any salvage yard and they'll give you the old tires for free more than likely. They cost a lot to dispose of so they'll probably give all you can use.
