Grip...

Unread postby birdi_gurlie » Wed May 20, 2009 6:14 pm

Anyone ever thought of using drum grip tape [ex: http://www.samash.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... -_-PSRBLUE] or baseball bat tape [ex: http://www.ithacasports.com/cobatta23paf.html OR http://www.sportsunlimitedinc.com/ctackbattape.html] for grip?

I know grip tape that most vaulter use is normal athletic tape [i.e. http://www.ithacasports.com/muellermtape.html]

What's the difference?
Are the others allowed?
What would the others do that the athletic tape wouldn't? Vice versa?

I use hockey tape as it is dirt cheap here (12 rolls for 11 dollars at Costco) which is functionally almost identical to athletic tape.

As for other varieties of tape, it is all up to individual preference (I know a girl who doesn't use tape on her poles for either hand). I say just take whatever's comfortable and cheap. The only thing I would avoid is the cushy baseball tape for fear it might peel down the pole from the top hand.
