if you are in a pinch and have a buddy sitting in the back seat, you can ride with the windows down and hang your left arms out the window and hold the poles ;)

Hey Becca,

My favorite was when you and Jesse were at the 4th of july vault and you were storing your poles inside of jesse's.

Something about having a big black tube on top of my car... I always end up lugging poles around for everyone else :P

Cabs??

Unread postby jmayesvaultmom » Tue May 06, 2003 7:58 am

What kind of luck have any of you had with airport cabs? Will they let you do the trunk and hood thing if you have a towel for the roof? I'm tired of paying big bucks to have to rent a SUV when we fly to a meet just for the roof rack. We usually have about 8 poles with us in a pole bag with the drainage tube thing in it. I'd really like to just rent the cheapest car and try it anyway. Can you still do it if the bag is pretty heavy? It doesn't slide around on top?

I have tied them to the side of my MR2 - poles are longer than the car - bungie cord and duck tape - same with rental car - on the side - towel in the trunk or bungie around spoiler - depending on car - set the front on mirror and duck tape tight - or open hood - - if you go over the top you need to take two short length of rope along - PS - getting them on the rent a car vans can be a real treat

Duct tape?

Unread postby jmayesvaultmom » Tue May 06, 2003 10:42 am

What are you duct taping? I also have straps with rachets that I thought about putting the towel or blanket under the poles and going all the way around the poles and the roof of the car and then shutting the doors. Then bungie the front to the hood and the back to the trunk. That way we could rent a cheaper car! Do you think that will work? The rental car people would never even see that we had the poles on the car because I usually leave Jodie at the airport with the poles and luggage and go get the rental car.

Might want to put the rachet thingees on the front and back, that is where a small shift will have a huge effect, wind sheer or something like that pushing a small deviation in position to a big deviation. Anyway, rachet the back and put ropes around the middle, which you can then slam into the door, that usually holds them very well.
Good luck!

Or probably better yet, buy 2 more rachet straps! :P (Cheaper than the rental difference in cars)

To tape poles to mirror housing - hold them tight - plus use for check marks - tape my wrist for the shot - fix the car - :o emergency six pak holder -

Six pack

Unread postby jmayesvaultmom » Thu May 08, 2003 2:12 pm

Well...if I put a six pack on the front AND the back??? That would be more aerodynamic, wouldn't it???
