Actually, I've seen "near-misses" a number of times where someone will hook the crossbar and send it sailing towards the rear of the pit onto the track. I videotape all the meets I work and some of the close ones would be spectacular if the timing was off by about .1-.2 seconds! But it still beats getting hit by a javelin or discus . . .
