don't focus on looking good when jumping, focus on jumping better. There is ALWAYS room for improvement

If you're that good perhaps you should be buying your own poles and tape. Then you would have every right to do what you want with them.

it gets soiled from laying on the ground and falling back to the ground, etc. stupid freshman, can't take care of the poles.

i use poles that havent been re-taped in years.... just take care of what you have and there wont be any problems

i normally retape mine once a year... or any time the pole hits the standards and goes through the tape (so i can check for pole damage)

If you tape it well enough it should last a long time. The tape on the pole I use hasn’t been changed in years.

I only retape when the tape is either
a) nasty from accidently getting wet the day before
b) so dirty that there is no way my grip will stay put when i jump
c) so old that it starts peeling off the pole and doesnt have any stick left to it
d) starts curling about where i normally hold *tape edges roll*

but besides that, i'm normally fine with whatever tape is one the pole. unless some one else decided to tape it and they taped it wrong! that just gets me... specially since I'm the only one that uses my pole... grr! =D

We have seven vaulters at our school and 5 of us use the same 2 poles, so the tape goes out quickly. It seems like we re-tape our poles every month or so, and even more frequently when the tape job sucks. The tape gets really dirty and ripped because of lying on the ground, etc...

that may be....
but u have to remember...
*this is a generalization*
that most of us that retape our poles more than once every two years actually are teenages with sweaty hands who vault out doors and fail to put the pole against a fence or something to keep the tape off of the ground....

not always, but sometimes i feel like that's the only reason why we have to retape so often.
